[Methods]This study included patients aged 75 years or older with a Cognitive Function Score (CFS) of IIIa or higher, who were admitted to the DCU at Oda Hospital between April 1 and October 14, 2020. Univariate analysis was performed to compare Bedriddenness Ranks, CFS, Barthel index, Mini-Mental State Examination, and ABC dementia scale (ABC-DS) at both admission and discharge from the DCU.
[Results]During the study period, 43 patients were admitted to DCU. Between admission and discharge from the DCU, Bedriddenness Ranks and CFS showed significant changes. The score for domain B of ABC–DS significantly improved from 23 to 25 points.
[Conclusions]Interventions in a DCU can effectively improve behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia in inpatients of acute care hospitals.
